Shop universal reverse cameras at Bass Junkies for clear, reliable rear visibility when parking, towing, or reversing in tight spaces. Our range covers CMOS and CCD sensor options, butterfly and lipstick body styles, IP68 weather sealing, plus models with built-in night vision and adjustable parking guidelines. Most cameras run NTSC composite video over a single RCA, making them compatible with the majority of aftermarket head units and reverse-trigger inputs. Ships same day from our Wolverhampton workshop with expert UK fitment advice on every order placed before 3pm.

Choosing the right universal reverse camera for your vehicle
Universal reverse cameras give you a wider, clearer view behind the car than mirrors alone, and they pair with virtually any aftermarket head unit that accepts composite video. The right camera depends on three things: where you can physically mount it, whether you want active parking lines, and how much night-time visibility you need. For most UK installs in 2026, a CMOS lipstick-style camera mounted on the number plate light works cleanly and stays hidden.
CMOS vs CCD sensors
CMOS sensors are the modern default. They draw less power, run cool, and produce a colour image that handles bright daylight without blooming. CCD sensors are older but still preferred by some installers for low-light clarity, since they can pull more detail from dim car-park scenes. If you frequently reverse at night or into unlit driveways, a CCD or a CMOS with bright LEDs is the safer choice.
Mounting styles and weather sealing
Most universal cameras come in one of three body styles: butterfly housings that flush-mount above the number plate, lipstick barrels that hide inside a number plate light recess, or surface-mount cubes for vans and SUVs. Look for IP67 or IP68 sealing if you regularly drive through rain or wash bays. Decent cameras include a sealed pigtail and gold-plated RCA connectors that resist corrosion on the boot edge.
Brand quality at a glance
- Connects2. Excellent value universal CMOS cameras with reliable parking lines and dependable colour balance.
- Pioneer. Vehicle-specific and universal models that integrate cleanly with their AVH and SPH head units.
- Sony. Strong build quality and balanced low-light response, popular with installers wiring premium head units.
- Kenwood. CMOS-130 and CMOS-230 universal cameras with sharp output and a wide field of view.
- Alpine. HCE-C series cameras with selectable view modes and impressive low-light performance.
Compatibility and fitting
- Fascia adapter. Required if you are upgrading the head unit at the same time to get a proper trim and DIN fitment.
- ISO harness. Lets you wire the reverse-trigger feed cleanly back to the head unit through the existing factory loom.
- Steering-wheel control adapter. Keeps your factory wheel buttons working when the camera install includes a head-unit swap.
- Aerial adapter. Only relevant if the camera fit is bundled with a new DIN head unit that needs an aerial conversion.
Wiring and installation tips
Run the composite video RCA along the headlining or sill, opposite any high-current speaker or power cabling, to avoid induced noise that can appear as horizontal lines on the picture. The reverse-trigger wire should pick up 12V positive from the reversing light circuit, not the brake light. Earth the camera to a clean, paint-free metal point near the boot lock, and seal any grommet you open with butyl tape to keep water out of the loom.
Common questions answered
Do I need a special head unit for a reverse camera? Any aftermarket stereo with a CAMERA-IN composite input will work. Will the camera turn on automatically? Yes, the reverse-trigger wire activates the head unit camera input when you select reverse gear. Can I add parking lines if my head unit does not have them? Some cameras have built-in switchable guidelines that overlay the picture regardless of head-unit features.
