The 2026 wireless car phone charging buyer's guide
Wireless car phone charging has moved from premium upgrade to everyday in-car essential. With wireless car phone chargers from Bass Junkies, you remove the daily cable shuffle, keep your handset locked in view, and arrive with a fuller battery. This guide walks you through Qi standards, mount styles, output ratings, fitment, brands we stock and why hundreds of UK drivers choose us for their charging upgrade.
Qi standards and output ratings explained
Qi is the global wireless charging standard supported by every modern iPhone and most flagship Android handsets. In-car pads typically offer 5W, 7.5W, 10W or 15W output. Higher wattage means faster top-ups on long drives, while a slim 5W to 10W pad is plenty for short commutes. Always pair the charger with a quality USB power source rated at 2A or higher for stable output.
Choosing the right charging pad style
- Flat dashboard pads. Low profile mats that sit on the dash or centre console, ideal when you simply rest the phone down at start of journey.
- Bracket and cradle mounts. Hold the phone upright in view for navigation, with charging coils built into the cradle.
- Vent and windscreen mounts. Combine vent or suction mounting with active Qi charging for tight cabins.
- Universal Qi adapters. Perfect when you want a single pad that works across the family fleet without per-car retuning.
Compatibility and fitting
- Fascia adapter. Only needed if you are integrating a charger into a head unit upgrade.
- ISO harness. Used when wiring chargers from a switched ignition feed for full power off when the car is parked.
- Steering wheel control adapter. Not required for charging itself, but worth ordering if you are upgrading the stereo at the same time.
- Aerial adapter. Only relevant if you are installing a new head unit alongside the charger.
Brand quality at a glance
- Connects2. UK-favourite brand for in-car interface and accessory products with strong Qi pad and bracket range.
- Bassjunkies-stocked partners. Selected ISO, fuse and signal accessories that pair neatly with each charger build.
Power feed, fuse and tidy install
Run the supplied USB cable to a permanent or switched 12V to 5V source through a fused USB adapter. We recommend tucking the cable behind the dash trim for a clean look, and using cable ties or self-adhesive clips so the lead never sits in the airbag deployment path. If you are unsure, our Wolverhampton workshop can hard wire your charger in under an hour.
Looking after your charger and phone battery
Keep the pad surface clean, remove thick cases when you need maximum speed and avoid metallic credit cards between the phone and pad. Wireless charging gives off slightly more heat than wired, so allow some airflow on hot summer drives to protect long-term battery health.
Warranty, returns and UK support
Every charger we sell ships from our Wolverhampton warehouse with full UK consumer protection, manufacturer warranty and clear returns terms. Need advice on which pad fits your console layout? Our team has fitted thousands of in-car phone solutions and can recommend the right combination by phone or email.

How to test charging speed after install
Once fitted, place a low-battery phone on the pad with the engine running, leave it for ten minutes and check the percentage gained. Expect roughly 8 to 12 percent on a 10W Qi pad and slightly more on a 15W unit. If the rate is poor, double-check your USB feed amperage, the phone case thickness and the pad alignment under the phone coil.
