Stream playlists straight from your dashboard with Spotify car stereos at Bass Junkies. These connected head units run Spotify Connect or full Spotify Tap so you can play, skip and search albums, artists and Daily Mixes using a touchscreen or steering wheel controls. Most models pair via Bluetooth or USB to your iPhone or Android phone, while many also support Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for a familiar interface. Pick from Pioneer, Kenwood, Sony and JVC double DIN options to match your car interior.

How to choose a Spotify car stereo in 2026
A Spotify car stereo gives you native control of the app from the head unit itself, rather than leaving you fumbling with a phone screen. Browse playlists, skip tracks and thumb up a song using the stereo's own buttons or touchscreen while the phone stays in your pocket. The range here starts at £74.95 for a single DIN mechless unit and runs to full touchscreen systems, so the first question is how much dashboard you have to work with.
How Spotify control actually works
There are two approaches. Older units use Pioneer's or Kenwood's dedicated Spotify app link, where the head unit talks to the Spotify app over USB or Bluetooth and mirrors its controls. Newer units simply run Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, and Spotify appears as one app among many. Projection is the more future proof route because the interface updates whenever Spotify updates, with no firmware release needed from the head unit manufacturer.
Single DIN, double DIN and screen units
Single DIN units such as the Pioneer DEH-S5000BT and the Kenwood KMM-125 fit the tall narrow slot found in most cars before roughly 2010 and in most vans. Double DIN units take the square aperture common from 2005 onwards. Screen units like the Kenwood DDX-4018BT and the Alpine i902D-G7 sit in the double DIN space but give you a touchscreen. Measure your aperture before choosing, because a fascia adapter cannot change the size of the hole.
Streaming quality and Bluetooth codecs
Spotify streams at up to 320 kbps on the premium tier. Whether that reaches your speakers intact depends on the Bluetooth codec. Standard SBC is adequate but audibly compressed on detailed tracks. AAC suits iPhone users, while aptX and aptX HD give Android users near CD quality. If you care about this, connect over USB instead of Bluetooth where the unit supports it, since USB bypasses the codec question entirely.
Do not drop DAB for streaming
Streaming and radio solve different problems. Streaming eats mobile data and drops out in rural areas and tunnels. DAB+ keeps working. Units such as the Pioneer FH-S820DAB, the Kenwood KDC-BT760DAB and the Pioneer MVH-S210DAB give you both, and every DAB unit needs an active DAB aerial fitted to work properly. Choose DAB+ rather than plain DAB, because a growing share of UK stations now broadcast in DAB+ only.
Offline playback and data use
A few practical points that catch people out:
- Download playlists over wifi. Spotify premium lets you store playlists on the phone, which removes both the data cost and the coverage problem on long drives.
- Watch your data allowance. At 320 kbps, an hour of streaming uses roughly 140 MB. A daily commute adds up quickly on a small plan.
- Keep the phone charged. Wireless projection plus streaming drains a battery faster than a standard USB port replaces it, so use a proper charging cable.
Brand quality at a glance
- Pioneer. The widest range at every price point, from the £74.95 MVH-S210DAB to the SPH-DA130DAB touchscreen, with class leading DAB tuners.
- Kenwood. Strong on features per pound, with Alexa built into the KDC-BT760DAB and wireless CarPlay on the DMX-8019DABS.
- Alpine. Premium sound processing and vehicle specific systems, including the 9 inch i902D-G7 built for the Volkswagen Golf MK7.
Compatibility and fitting
Fitting an aftermarket unit into a modern car is rarely a straight swap. In most vehicles you will also need:
- Fascia adapter panel. This fills the gap around the new unit so it sits flush with your dashboard and looks factory fitted.
- ISO wiring harness. A vehicle specific loom that plugs into your existing connector, so no factory wiring is cut.
- Steering wheel control adapter. Retains your volume, track and phone buttons on the wheel rather than losing them.
- Aerial adapter. Converts your car aerial plug to the standard DIN or Fakra fitting the new unit expects, and supplies phantom power where needed.
We hold fitting kits for every popular UK car and can supply the stereo and the parts together as one matched kit.
