Cabling is the least glamorous part of any 12V install and the part that causes the most problems. Undersized leads drop voltage, cheap plugs work loose and a straight HDMI connector can leave a TV standing 40mm proud of the wall. Why lead quality changes performance

Every metre of cable adds resistance, and at 12V a small voltage drop matters far more than it would at mains level. A thin extension lead can leave a fridge or cooler running below its designed voltage, which shortens compressor life and wastes battery capacity. Properly specified copper conductors and solid crimped terminals keep that loss to a minimum.

Cigar lighter leads and German style adapters

UK and continental 12V sockets differ slightly in diameter, which is why plugs from one can sit loose in the other and cut out over bumps. German style adapters are machined to the DIN standard and grip properly in European caravan and motorhome sockets. If your appliance keeps dropping out on the move, the plug profile is almost always the cause.
