Car stereo fitting accessories that get the job done in 2026
The right car stereo fitting accessories turn a difficult dash swap into a five minute job in 2026. The two kits in this collection are the ones every UK installer keeps in the van: Connects2 release keys for JVC, Kenwood and Sony single-DIN head units, sold here at Bass Junkies at trade-friendly pricing with same working day dispatch on stock items.
Why release keys matter
JVC, Kenwood and Sony stereos all lock into the dash cage with sprung clips that grip the side of the chassis. Trying to lever them out with a screwdriver bends the cage, damages the radio surround and almost always scratches the dashboard or leaves marks on the centre console. The correct release keys release those clips cleanly, so the unit slides out without a mark.
Connects2 CT22JV01 for JVC and Kenwood
The CT22JV01 is a matched pair of steel keys designed for JVC and Kenwood single-DIN head units. Slide them into the slots either side of the fascia, push until the catches release and pull the unit straight out by the keys. They work on every JVC KD, KW and Kenwood KDC series since the late 1990s.
Connects2 CT22SO02 for Sony 2004 onwards
Sony moved to a slightly different lock profile from 2004. The CT22SO02 has the correct tip shape for these chassis and is the right tool for every recent Sony DSX, MEX and XAV single-DIN model. Using the wrong key here scratches the fascia and rarely releases the catches first time.
Brand quality at a glance
- Connects2. UK fitting brand, the standard release keys used in our own workshop every day.
- JVC. Long-running single-DIN head-unit brand, key shape unchanged for years.
- Kenwood. Shares the same release profile as JVC, one tool covers both ranges.
- Sony. Separate post-2004 profile, use the CT22SO02 keys to avoid damage.
When you actually need them
Release keys are needed any time you remove a JVC, Kenwood or Sony head unit. The most common reasons are stereo upgrades, troubleshooting a faulty unit, insurance recoveries before scrapping a car, removing a stolen-recovery radio, or simply moving a working radio from one vehicle to another to keep it after a part-exchange.
Compatibility and fitting
Most stereo swaps need a small bundle of fitting accessories. Order the keys with the rest of your install pack and save a second delivery charge.
- Release keys. The items in this collection, matched to your stereo brand.
- Fascia adapter. Vehicle-specific trim if you are changing the look of the dashboard.
- ISO harness. Plug-and-play loom for the new stereo.
- Steering-wheel control adapter. Retains factory wheel buttons after the swap.
- Aerial adapter. Matches the factory antenna to the new head unit.
Storage tips and trade packs
Keep the keys taped to the underside of the head unit or stored in the glovebox. Every workshop has lost more sets than it can count, and a fresh pair lives in your tool drawer the day after you throw the last ones away. We offer trade pricing on multi-pack orders of either key, packed loose for fast pick on busy install days. Mobile fitters often run a marked-up pair of each so the right key reaches the dash first time on a customer doorstep.
