A custom bass box is designed around one vehicle rather than one speaker. Instead of a rectangular enclosure sitting in the boot, the box follows the contour of an arch, a rear seat base or a cab wall, so it disappears into the vehicle and leaves your load space intact. Why enclosure volume decides the sound

A subwoofer only performs correctly inside the internal air volume it was designed for. Too small and the bass turns thin and peaky, too large and it becomes loose and slow. Check the RMS rating the box is designed for and pair the amplifier to that figure rather than to the peak power on the driver's box. A monoblock rated at around five hundred watts RMS at two ohms drives most ten inch subwoofers in this range comfortably. Set the gain by ear at around two thirds volume, engage the low pass filter near eighty hertz, and leave the bass boost switched off.

Installation points worth knowing

Secure the box properly. An unrestrained ten inch enclosure is a serious hazard under braking, so bolt it through a structural point or use the mounting provision supplied. Take the amplifier earth to bare metal on the chassis rather than a seat bolt, keep RCA leads down the opposite side of the vehicle to the power cable, and fuse the positive lead within thirty centimetres of the battery terminal.
