Most installs go smoothly when the right supporting parts are ordered alongside the main product. Check these before you buy:

• Fascia adapter. Fills the gap between an aftermarket head unit and the dashboard if you are upgrading the stereo at the same time.
• ISO harness. Connects a new stereo to the original wiring without cutting factory plugs.
• Steering-wheel control adapter. Keeps your factory wheel buttons working with a new head unit.
• Aerial adapter. Converts the vehicle aerial plug to the standard connector on aftermarket stereos.

Getting the best sound

Set the amplifier low-pass filter around 80 Hz and the gain with the head unit at three quarters volume so the sub never clips. Face a ported box towards the tailgate and secure it so it cannot slide. If the factory stereo has no RCA outputs, a line output converter or a high level input on the amplifier lets the package work with the original head unit, which most of these amplifiers support.
