FLI Underground buying guide for 2026
FLI Audio is a British bass brand that designs and tunes its enclosures specifically for the UK aftermarket. The Underground series is the entry to mid-tier range and remains one of the easiest ways to add deep, controlled bass to a daily-driven car without paying for a custom build. Bass Junkies has stocked the Underground line since launch and has fitted them to thousands of customer cars, so the recommendations below come from real-world install experience rather than spec sheet theory and marketing copy.
Active or passive Underground enclosure
Active Underground boxes have a built-in Class D amplifier and need only a power feed, an earth and a high or low level audio input from the head unit. Passive boxes contain just the driver and require a separate mono amplifier. Active is the right choice for stock head unit upgrades and customers who want a one-box solution. Passive is the right choice if you want to scale power later or already own a mono amp that fits the budget.
Sizes and which to pick
The 8-inch Underground is a great fit for small hatches and city cars. The 10-inch enclosure is the best all-round seller and works in everything from a Corsa to a Golf. The 12-inch model is the loudest option and is the pick for estates, SUVs and hatchbacks where boot space is not an issue. Twin-driver Underground enclosures sit at the top of the range and suit larger boots, demo cars and SPL builds with bigger power.
Brand quality at a glance
- FLI Underground Active. Built-in amplifier, remote bass knob, plug-and-play install.
- FLI Underground Passive. Sealed and ported enclosures rated 250 to 600 watts RMS.
- FLI Trap Series. Sister range with twin drivers for higher SPL builds.
- FLI Loaded. Higher trim with stiffer cones and dual-voice-coil options.
- FLI Comp. Competition tier for SPL builds and demo cars.
Power and amplifier matching
If you are running a passive Underground, pick a mono amplifier rated at or just above the box RMS figure. A 300 watt RMS box should pair with a 300 to 400 watt RMS mono amp. Active models include their own matched amp, so no extra hardware is needed beyond the wiring kit. We supply all amplifier wiring kits in 8-gauge and 4-gauge formats to suit power levels from 250 to 1200 watts continuous.
Compatibility and fitting
- Amplifier wiring kit. 8-gauge for active boxes, 4-gauge for passive setups over 400 watts.
- High-low converter. Built into active boxes, sold separately if you pair a passive box with an amp lacking high level input.
- Remote bass dial. Supplied with every active Underground, mounts under the dash.
- Strap kit. Optional rubber boot strap kit to secure the enclosure against boot floor.
Boot space and daily-driver use
An 8-inch or 10-inch active Underground will leave most hatchback boots usable for a weekly shop. The 12-inch and twin-driver enclosures take more room and are better suited to estates, SUVs and vans. All enclosures sit on rubber feet to protect carpets and reduce vibration noise on rough road surfaces, which keeps your boot trim looking factory for resale.
