Double DIN Fascia Panels

Double DIN fascia panels: the 2026 fitting guide

A double DIN fascia panel is the part that makes an aftermarket stereo look like it left the factory that way. It fills the dashboard aperture, holds the head unit square and hides the cut lines left by the original radio. Choosing the correct one for your exact vehicle and build year is the single biggest factor in whether the finished job looks professional or obviously aftermarket.

What double DIN actually means

DIN refers to the standard head unit aperture size. Single DIN is 180mm wide by 50mm tall, and double DIN is the same width by 100mm tall. Most touchscreen units with CarPlay and Android Auto are double DIN, which is why so many upgrades need a fascia: the original opening is often single DIN with a storage pocket beneath it, or a non standard moulded shape entirely.

Getting the fit right first time

• Confirm the build year. Manufacturers change dashboard mouldings mid generation far more often than people expect, so the registration year is not always enough.
• Check the trim level. Higher specification cars frequently have a different surround, climate display or screen housing.
• Match the colour. Panels come in black, gloss black, silver and shadow grey, and the wrong finish stands out badly against the surrounding trim.
• Check the cage requirement. Some kits include a metal support cage, others rely on the head unit sleeve, and a few need a separate mounting bracket.

Where the extra space goes

When you convert a single DIN aperture to double DIN, something has to give. Usually it is the storage pocket, occasionally a blanking plate or a display. On some vehicles the heater controls sit immediately below the radio, in which case a relocation bracket comes with the kit. Read the fitment notes carefully, because this is where most surprises happen on the day.

Vehicles that need extra parts

Cars with an integrated information display, a factory amplifier or steering wheel controls need more than the fascia alone. Expect to add a CAN bus interface to keep those functions alive. On a growing number of 2015 onwards vehicles the original screen also drives the climate readout, and in those cases a screen retention solution is a better route than removing it.

Brand quality at a glance

• Connects2. The widest double DIN fascia range in the UK, with clearly documented fitment and matching harnesses.
• Autoleads. Well finished panels and the supporting adapters, brackets and aerial leads to complete the job.
• Metra. Robust kits with good tolerances, particularly strong on Japanese and American platforms.
• Pioneer and Kenwood. Head units sized to standard double DIN, so they drop into these kits without modification.
• Axxess. Interfaces and integration modules for vehicles with more complex dashboard electronics.

Compatibility and fitting

A tidy installation depends on four vehicle-specific parts. Get these right and the job is usually a straightforward evening in the driveway.

• Fascia adapter. Fills the dashboard aperture and holds a single or double DIN unit at the correct depth and angle, with a factory finish.
• ISO wiring harness. Plugs into the vehicle loom on one side and the new head unit on the other, so no factory wiring needs cutting.
• Steering wheel control adapter. Retains volume, track skip and phone buttons on the wheel after the original stereo is removed.
• Aerial adapter. Converts the factory antenna plug to the standard DIN connector and supplies phantom power where the vehicle needs it.

Tools and technique

Use plastic trim removal tools rather than a screwdriver. Dashboard clips are brittle, particularly on cars over ten years old, and a scratched or cracked surround will spoil an otherwise tidy install. Work from the outside of the panel inwards, release the clips evenly, and disconnect the battery before pulling any connectors from the back of the original radio.

Ordering the full kit together

The fascia is one of four parts you need. Buying the panel, ISO harness, steering wheel control interface and aerial adapter in one order means the car is only off the road once. If you are unsure which combination your vehicle takes in 2026, send us the registration and we will confirm the exact list before you order.
