Stinger car audio wiring and accessories: the 2026 UK guide
Stinger has built its reputation on the bits most people never see. Wiring, fuses, RCA cables, distribution blocks. The components that decide whether an amplifier delivers clean rated power or hums, clips and burns out a year in. If you are running a serious system, the cabling matters as much as the amp itself, and Stinger is the brand UK installers reach for when the install has to last.
Power wiring kits
Stinger amp kits are sold by gauge and tested current rating, not the misleading marketing AWG numbers used by cheaper brands. Real 4-gauge oxygen-free copper carries the current your amp asks for without voltage drop or heat build-up.
- 8-gauge kits. Single amplifiers up to around 600W total system power.
- 4-gauge kits. Mid-size builds up to 1500W including a sub amp.
- 1/0-gauge kits. Competition installs, dual battery setups, lithium banks.
- Big-3 upgrade kits. Battery to chassis, engine block to chassis, alternator to battery, for stable voltage at idle.
RCA cables and signal integrity
Cheap RCAs pick up alternator whine and engine noise. Stinger uses twisted-pair shielded conductors that reject interference and keep the signal clean from head unit to amp. A 5m HPM-series RCA is the difference between a system that sounds clinical and one that has a constant whine you can hear at low volume. The 9000-series goes further with extra shielding for high-noise vehicles.
Fuse holders and circuit protection
UK law and basic safety require a main fuse within 30cm of the battery on any car audio install. Stinger ANL and Mini-ANL fuse holders give a clean, water-resistant mount and the correct ratings are simple to read on the cap. Match the fuse to the cable, not the amp, so the wire is protected if anything ever shorts to chassis.
Distribution blocks and grounding
Running two or more amplifiers means splitting the power feed cleanly. Stinger distribution blocks use compression terminals that grip the cable end without slipping. A good earth point, scraped back to bare metal and bolted with a star washer, is half the battle on any install. Skip the grounding step and you will chase noise for months.
Brand quality at a glance
- Stinger. US-designed, tested gauge, generous overspec on every kit.
- Connects2. UK distribution partner, fast next-day stock in Wolverhampton.
- Phoenix Gold. Sister brand for higher-end amp wiring runs.
- Vibe Audio. Budget alternative when total spend matters more than overspec.
- Kicker. Strong matched kits for their CompR and CompC subwoofer ranges.
Compatibility and fitting
A typical Stinger install runs from battery positive through a main fuse, along the sill, into the boot and onto a distribution block. From there to one or more amplifiers. Helpful extras for the same job:
- Battery terminal upgrade. Brass clamps with 4-gauge tap to accept the new feed.
- Remote wire. Thin trigger wire from the head unit's blue remote out.
- Speaker wire. Stinger 12-gauge OFC for sub runs, 16-gauge for door speakers.
- Grommets and loom tubing. Through the bulkhead for tidy and legal routing.
- Heat shrink and ring terminals. Professional finish on every joint.
Pairing Stinger with your amps
Match the kit gauge to the total fused current rating of all amps in the system. A 1000W mono sub amp at 14V draws roughly 70A under load, which is comfortable on a 4-gauge kit. Add a four-channel amp on top and you should jump to 1/0-gauge to keep voltage drop under half a volt at full tilt.
