Lift the staging in your build with component car speakers that separate tweeters from mid drivers for sharper imaging. Each kit ships with passive crossovers and tweeter mounts, so highs sit at ear height while mid-bass stays low in the door for a wide soundstage. We stock 5.25, 6.5 and 6x9 fitments from Focal, Hertz, Vibe, Pioneer, JBL, Alpine and Audison, plus the wiring spades and adapters needed for UK vehicles. Bass Junkies ships every component speaker set quickly with full warranty support.

Buying component car speakers in 2026: what actually matters
Component speakers split the woofer, tweeter and crossover into separate pieces. That layout is the single biggest sound upgrade you can do to a car after the head unit. Vocals lift, instrument separation appears, and stage width goes from a flat dashboard sound to a stretched stereo image across the windscreen. This collection covers 5.25 inch, 6.5 inch, 6x8 inch and 6x9 inch component sets from the brands UK installers actually trust, plus the matching tweeters, crossovers and mounting hardware needed for a clean fit.
How component speakers differ from coaxials
A coaxial speaker has the tweeter sitting on top of the woofer, fired through the cone. A component set lets you mount the tweeter higher up, usually on the A-pillar or sail panel, which is where the human ear expects vocals to come from. The crossover network then sends the right frequency band to the right driver so each driver only does the job it was designed for. Result: less distortion, more headroom, a far more natural listening position.
Brand quality at a glance
- Focal. Reference brand for component sets, French build, neutral signature, the safe pick if you want the best the budget allows.
- JL Audio. Strong mid-bass and a clean top end, well suited to upgraded amplifiers, popular for tight install bays.
- Kicker. Energetic and loud, great pairing with subwoofer-led builds, dependable build quality.
- Pioneer. Reliable value tier, easy plug-in fit on most UK vehicles, smooth voicing.
- Phoenix Gold and Vibe. Real-world UK builds at competitive money, plenty of installation flexibility.
- Match and Ground Zero. European specialists, vehicle-tuned options for those running DSP.
Choosing the right size
- 5.25 inch. Common in older European cars, classic Minis, small Citroens, Peugeots and Smart cars.
- 6.5 inch. The dominant size across UK Fords, BMWs, Audis and most Volkswagen Group cars.
- 6x8 inch. Standard on most Fords and some American imports, oval-shaped baskets.
- 6x9 inch. Bigger drivers, more bass output, usually fit parcel shelves or boot enclosures.
Amplifier and power matching
Component sets generally need more clean RMS power than coaxials to perform properly. A 60 to 100 watt RMS four-channel amplifier is the sweet spot for most fronts. If you want the soundstage to keep up at volume, run the front pair off two channels of the amp and let the head unit handle the rears. Crossovers should always be wired in series with the speakers, never bypassed.
Sound deadening makes a measurable difference
Doors flex when fitted with aftermarket speakers, which kills mid-bass output. A layer of butyl-based sound deadening across the outer door skin, plus a closed-cell foam decoupler around the speaker basket, tightens the bass response and reduces panel resonance. Pair this with a fascia ring spacer where the door card sits close to the cone.
Compatibility and fitting
- Speaker adapter ring. Required to fit standard sizes into oddly shaped factory apertures.
- ISO speaker connector adapter. Avoids cutting factory wiring on most VW Group and Ford vehicles.
- Tweeter mounting hardware. Surface, flush and angled brackets are usually supplied with the kit.
- Sound deadening. Butyl mat and foam, single most cost-effective add-on for a component upgrade.
Burn-in and tuning
Give a fresh component set 30 to 50 hours of normal driving before judging its tone. Once the spider and surround have flexed in, you can re-tune the head unit crossover slope and time alignment if your unit supports DSP. Pioneer, Kenwood and Sony head units in the upper mid-range will all let you fine tune from the menu.
